Licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses care for the injured, sick, and the disabled under the supervision of other personal.
Perform bedside care like:
- Taking vital signs
- Checking blood pressure
- Determining pulse
- Monitoring respiration
They also apply:
- Injections and enemas
- Monitor catheters
- Apply dressings
- Treat bedsores
- Give alcohol rubs and massages
LVN’s also watch patients and report bad reactions due to medicines or treatments. LVN’s and other Licenced nurses will be called upon to bathand dress patients and help them with their other personal hygiene needs. Sometimes they can give medicing but this depends on which state the licenced practical nurse is working in. If there are infants nurses can expect to care for and feed them and sometimes help deliver the children.
At offices a nurse may have to perform secretarial work such as scheduling appointments or keeping and updating records. In homes a nurse may need to teach nursing skills and prepare food. You could be called upon to perform tests, collect samples, feed patients, and take logs recording patients actions and activities. Sometimes with enough experience an LVN or LPN can supervise other nurses.
