LPN Job Outlook

The elderly are the fastest growing part of the population in America. They also are the largest users of health care. Many of the nurses currently serving the elderly are nearing retirement. The number of nurses is decreasing while the demand for health care continues to skyrocket. Due to this situation high paying jobs as nurses will be available for a long time to come.

Hospitals are using LPNs less because many of the procedures previously performed in hospitals can be performed at a doctor’s office. The upshot of this is that these jobs will be moving out into other areas such as nursing homes and doctor’s offices.

Overall the job growth of LPNs is expected to grow faster than average in home healthcare services. This is because of the desire of aging people to stay at home, advances in technology allowing more complex treatments to be performed in the home, and older people with functional disabilities.

Employment in nursing care facilities though will just be average. There will be more people needing long term care in intermediate facilities. However the increased demand will be moderated by consumer preference.
