The program is accredited by the board for nursing to teach practical nursing [<a href="http://hpla.doh.dc.gov/hpla/cwp/view,A,1195,Q,489009,hplaNav,|30661|,.asp">ref</a>].  The program has classes in the mornings and evenings Monday through Friday. Morning classes are from 8 am till 2 pm with clinicals starting at  7 am. The evening classes and clinicals run from 4 pm to 10 pm. The teaching staff  consists of six nurses that hold masters degrees and hold nursing licenses.</p>
<p>After researching the school we have not found any reviews of it by former or current students. We also could not find the NCLEX-PN pass rate.</p>

Student complaints focus primarily on lack of financial aid and fees associated with the school that they had expected to be part of the overall tuition. In 2006 the former owner of the school was sentenced to prison for defrauding the Department of Education and Labor by accepting from the government for students that were not eligible or qualified to be in the program [<a href="http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oig/invtreports/nj102006.html">ref</a>]. At one time they were not an accredited school but they are now listed as an accredited school by the state nursing board.</p>

The program is a four year program that spans the life of the student from freshman to senior year. During the freshman and sophomore years the students study generalized health subjects. During the junior and senior years the students move on to specialized instruction in practical nursing. The course work continues during the summers following the junior and the senior years.</p>
<p>The pass rate for the NCLEX-PN for all high school programs in New York was 48.9% in 2008 and 43.8% in 2009.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Fairfax County School of Practical Nursing is a program for adults and high school students in the Fairfax county area of Virginia. The school length varies for adults and high school students. Upon completion of the first part of the course the students will be qualified to become certified nursing assistants. Upon completion of the second part of the course the students will be eligible to test to become licensed practical nurses.</p>
<p><strong>Cost:</strong></p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Adults</strong></span></p>
<p>Level 1 for adults is nine months long of classroom time. e first year students learn anatomy, nursing fundamentals, nutrition and  other fundamental health topics. The classes are held at Falls Church High School on a daily basis. After completion of all course work and 40 hours of practicals the student may take the Certificated Nursing Assistant exam. Level 2 is another nine months of practical and classroom instruction. After completion of this portion of the program the student is eligible to take the NCLEX &#8211; PN exam.</p>

<p>This is a two year program for high school students. The first year students learn anatomy, nursing fundamentals, nutrition and other fundamental health topics. Once the students complete the first year of the course work they are eligible to begin the clinical portion of their education. Once the student finish 40 hours of practicals they can become certified nursing assistants (CNA&#8217;s) after graduation. The level two students are students that completed level one and have graduated high school. Level two students are required to pay tuition for the second year.  During the second level students will complete more practicals, course work, and labs under the supervision of registered nurses. Completion of the course and passing of the NCLEX &#8211; PN exam are required to gain a license as a practical nurse.</p>

<p><strong>Typical Path:</strong></p>
<p>Students are recommended to take a survey course called &#8220;Introduction to Health Careers&#8221;. After completion of this course they should take &#8220;Nurse Aide Education&#8221; and the the final course &#8220;Practical Nursing Program&#8221;.</p>
<p><strong>About the Courses:</strong></p>
<p>The &#8220;Introduction to Health Careers&#8221; is a single semester course that teaches students about jobs in the health field. AS part of the course students learn biology, some basic practical nursing , and communication skills.</p>
<p>The &#8220;Nurse Aide Education&#8221; course is an exclusive course that rains students to be nurse aides. To enter the course students must have a good discipline and behavior record. Students also are required to complete an interview and application to be considered for entry. Once they are accepted students will perform practical eduction inside a nursing home interacting with residents and patients.</p>
<p>The &#8220;Practical Nursing Program&#8221; is a year long course. Its recommended that students have completed the two previously mentioned course plus have taken biology, Algebra I, and Chemistry.  the program is for seniors who have shown a high aptitude for success in this field. The classes take place over 4 periods at the end of the day and include course work and practical examinations. After the student finished the program, graduates or attains a GED, then they are allowed to move to the second portion of the program. The second portion involves another year or post high school instruction.</p>
<p><strong>Success Rates:</strong></p>
<p>According to the nursing board of Virginia the Amherst County program has a 75% pass rate of the NCLEX exam.</p>

<p>The program was established in 1996 with a starting class of 26 students. The original class program was a 12 month program and since then has changed to 15 months and has night classes.</p>
<p><strong>Admissions</strong></p>
<p>To be admitted to the program You must take an entrance exam. If you pass the entrance exam then you go through an admissions interview. As part of the interview you will be required to prove your US residency, provide a passport, provide 3 character referenced, provide proof of CPR certification,  pass a criminal background check, provide proof of vaccinations, provide GED/High school records/college records, $20, and lastly your drivers license or ID card. Once you complete this you will be notified if you pass.</p>
